Millennium Bank’s customers can benefit free of charge from the advantages granted by 3D Secure technology: enhanced security, reduction of the fraud risk for the online transactions at all online merchants that are part of the 3D Secure project.
What is 3D Secure?
Is the highest international standard for securing internet purchases, implemented by Visa and Mastercard that uses a personalised authentication method for identifying customers when they are using cards for online payments.
3D Secure is based on the assignment of a user name (“user”) and a password by the cardholder (different from the PIN code), that protects him against unauthorised usage of the card at the online merchants taking part to this project. The card can not be used for online payments without knowing the password, so the user is protected.
3D Secure technology is implemented on the merchants’ websites under the name:
- „MasterCard Secure Code”, for MasterCard; logo:
or
- „Verified by Visa”, for Visa; logo:

How is 3D Secure technology working?
3D Secure operates exclusively on websites that display the logo
or
.
For every online payment, the cardholder authentication is done in the same security environment, whether it is realised on the personal computer or on any other computer. Thus, the confidentiality of personal data is ensured and both the fraud risk and that of skimming the payment details is eliminated.
Access to the 3D Secure service is extremely fast and simple. Millennium Bank offers this service free of charge to its customers for the entire validity period of the card and without having to sign any contract or paying a visit to the Bank. Enrolling and activating the service is a one time process and does not require the installation of any application on the computer and it does not impede web browsing.
To take advantage of 3D Secure, please follow the next steps:
Step 1 - 3D Secure activation
This operation is conducted by setting the personal parameters (user and password), that will be used later on during your identity authentication process. See below the instructions for the service activation.
